The site for this project, “Bridge on Landscape” Home, presented a unique set of challenges. Its distinctive shape, facing a steep edge and significant elevation change due to natural desert erosion, required a major setback. The site’s corner location and hillside position imposed further limitations on the building envelope. The owners’ goal was to design a home that felt like a mountain and valley landscape experience on a hillside, despite its low elevation.

The response was to divide the house into two levels. The main living area and master suite are located on the upper level, offering expansive views of the mountains, valley, and city. The lower level houses the children’s suites, guest rooms, and indoor-outdoor living spaces, connecting to the upper level. The entry hall, acting as a social space, bridges the formal and informal living areas, blending seamlessly into the home’s design.

The kitchen features bespoke wood detailing that extends from the building, serving as sculptural elements and functional storage. This craftsmanship, reminiscent of bookbinding, creates a dramatic and warm contrast against the cool gray wood palette and steel finishes. The floating cloud-like ceiling and light archways define the lower level space, balancing comfort and drama by adjusting the scale of the room. The design seamlessly blends interior and exterior spaces, offering a truly unique living experience.
