Bapa Eight Sides, a lifestyle brand, has recently opened a boutique store featuring a curated selection of modern goods and clothing designs. Nestled in a small alleyway on the bustling Maoming South Road in Shanghai, this 40-square-meter boutique store is housed within the ground floor of a traditional residential structure. The boutique store has a subtle yet welcoming aesthetic, with a space that seems like another space structure made of compressed wood with decorative doors and windows inserted into the original space. The store’s design features a unique layout with a long corridor leading to a front hall, a raised walkway, and a semi-concealed space, creating a distinct shopping experience.

An unassuming entrance in the alley leads to a long corridor that opens into a space that resembles a front hall. Here, a dark wood cash counter faces a shelving unit made of light-colored white oak finger-jointed boards.

On one side, an opening in the wall allows glimpses of an adjacent semi-concealed space where ceramics are displayed on recessed shelving units and a long display cabinet. This space can be reached through a raised walkway on the other side.
The wood cabinets on the raised walkway showcase clothing and shoes, while a bay window in the center of the space allows ample sunlight to stream in. The deliberate addition of level differences enhances the Bapa Eight Sides shopping experience, encouraging shoppers to explore every nook and cranny of the store. The cultural aesthetics of clothing and objects are also reflected in the spaces they inhabit. The consistent inside and outside of the square, which is eight sides.
