Project Background & Context

Nestled within the bustling streets of Ngo Gia Tu, Vietnam, Juicetin emerges as a unique coffee haven. Inspired by the aesthetic of old post offices, this coffee shop is a testament to the blending of nostalgia and contemporary design. It’s a space that invites patrons to embark on a journey through time, experiencing a unique blend of retro charm and modern functionality. This project is a testament to the growing demand for aesthetically pleasing spaces within the food and beverage industry in Vietnam.

Exterior Design & Post Office Inspiration

The exterior of Juicetin is a masterpiece of design, crafted by KSOUL Studio. The eye-catching red mailbox serves as a visual anchor, hinting at the building’s post office-inspired theme. A bold use of rust-colored paint on the facade gives the structure a distinct, industrial aesthetic. This choice of color contrasts with the modern office buildings that surround it, yet simultaneously integrates it into the cityscape. It speaks to a deeper reverence for tradition and innovation, seamlessly connecting the past and the present. A large clock, resembling a sculptural element, dominates the main facade. It adds a sense of ceremony and a timeless quality to the space. The clock’s presence, along with the romantic British-style awnings, creates a space that is both classic and modern.

Interior Design & Space Planning

Stepping through the large tempered glass door, framed by oak wood, is a sensory experience. The doors rotate 360 degrees, subtly hinting at the engaging experiences that await inside. The interior is a symphony of textures and patterns. Vintage-style tiles, terrazzo flooring, and mosaic accents create a unique visual landscape. The counter system, featuring a striped design, demonstrates the designers’ dedication to detail and their deep understanding of the essence of old British post offices. The interior is a thoughtful mix of functionality and aesthetic appeal. Elements such as writing desks and waiting benches retain the practical features of a post office, but with an injection of modern comfort and beauty. Newspaper racks further emphasize the post office theme, acting as repositories of history and fostering a sense of tranquility within the space. The interior space encourages a sense of calm and invites patrons to escape the hustle and bustle of the outside world.

Materials & Sustainability

The design of Juicetin thoughtfully incorporates a range of materials that contribute to its vintage aesthetic while maintaining a modern sensibility. The exterior utilizes rust-colored paint, creating a visually striking contrast. The interior features a mix of materials such as oak wood for the door frames, vintage-style tiles for the floors and walls, and terrazzo flooring. The choice of materials is aligned with the building’s post office inspiration, providing a sense of continuity between the past and the present. The choice of materials is not only visually appealing but also contributes to the overall sustainability of the building. The designers have also taken into account the need for a comfortable and welcoming atmosphere. The combination of the carefully chosen materials and the thoughtful interior design creates an environment that is inviting and conducive to relaxation and social interaction. The project features an emphasis on creating a sustainable space that is both functional and aesthetically appealing. This includes the use of natural light and ventilation.
