KAFE BOOGIES, a full-day brunch restaurant in Shanghai, designed by STUDIO DOHO, offers a rustic industrial aesthetic with exposed concrete, metallic accents, and a focus on music, showcasing the owner’s cassette collection and a space for live performances. The restaurant features an open kitchen, a distinctive bar, and unique shelving for showcasing the owner’s music collection.
KAFE BOOGIES, a full-day brunch restaurant located in Shanghai, was designed by STUDIO DOHO for a couple, one of whom is a local musician. The owner’s love for music is showcased in the design, with ample space dedicated to displaying his cassette tape collection and a performance area for his evening gigs. The design team aimed to create a raw industrial aesthetic by stripping away the existing space to reveal the underlying beauty of the concrete load-bearing walls and columns. Metal elements with an industrial rust finish and colorful glass panels further enhance the industrial ambiance, creating a distinctively themed space. The herringbone-patterned wood floor completes the design’s core elements.
The restaurant features a striking sculptural light fixture made of copper pipes and light bulbs, connecting the various zones of the space. An open kitchen not only showcases the chef and the food but also adds a captivating background element that elevates the dining experience. The bar boasts Bentu concrete tiles and a metal grid top. Distinctive shelving allows for the display of the owner’s music collection, while a dedicated corner is set aside for the live music equipment used during evening performances.
KAFE BOOGIES is a testament to the power of design to merge functionality with personal expression. The rustic industrial aesthetic, combined with the owner’s love for music, creates a vibrant and welcoming space that attracts those seeking a unique and memorable dining experience.
